Give the gift of hope to a child in need this Christmas season.
How You Can Help:
Ashly’s Journey to Hope and Healing.
Ashly is 14 years old and lives with her mother, Gloria, in Quiche, Guatemala. Ashly was in desperate need of reconstructive surgery due to burns on her face, chest, and right arm. She has epilepsy, and one day began convulsing near a fire while doing her daily chores. Due to her seizure, Ashly fell unconscious into the fire with no one nearby to rescue her until it was too late.
While Ashly was able to receive immediate, life-saving aid, she was still left with painful scars. The local hospital in her village didn't have the expertise or the capacity to perform corrective surgery, and traveling to the national hospital in Guatemala City to get specialized care was expensive and cost-prohibitive.
Ashly’s pediatrician told her and her mother about the Moore Center, and the two of them traveled 6 hours just to talk to us about this little girl's condition. As soon as we heard Ashly's story, our staff immediately put her on our waiting list for plastic surgery. We also began consulting our medical personnel about her case.
It's our joy to tell you that Ashly finally received her long-awaited surgery! The scars that once caused her so much pain are now barely visible. Thanks to the return of our medical mission teams, Ashly has renewed hope! After waking up from surgery she said to our medical staff, "Thank you for choosing me."
Provide hope to a child like Ashly.
