Every child deserves to grow up healthy & strong.
Sadly, lack of access to nutritional food is robbing Guatemala’s children of opportunity. Help provide access to the critical food they need and restore their futures.
50% of children under the age of five suffer from chronic malnutrition in Guatemala.
Though the country is a farmer’s paradise, most of Guatemala’s resources are exported, leaving locals with only the shell of what is produced. As a result, Guatemalan’s are essentially ‘starving in their own garden,’ causing irreversible damage to their development and future.
Guatemala’s children are getting caught in the vicious cycle of malnutrition. As a result, they are coming to the Moore Center needing help and critical care.
LEADING CAUSES OF MALNUTRITION:
Food Insecurity
Lack of Education
Poor Public Health Services
“For children in Guatemala, malnutrition is their worst enemy. Poor nutrition means weakened immune systems, which leads to disease and even death. This cycle has to be put to an end.”
Dr. Rosangela Sanchez | Medical Director of the Moore Center
We believe that quality care extends beyond the operating room. That’s why preventative care is vital in order to address each child’s needs.
HOW WE’RE COMBATTING MALNUTRITION:
White Flag Survival Kits
The White Flag Survival Kit project is our crisis initiative tailored to specifically combat the hunger pandemic Guatemalan’s are facing. Each kit provides our patients’ families with 63 lbs. of non-perishable items like rice, beans, oats, oil, etc., access to free telehealth services, and personal hygiene products to combat the spread of COVID-19. How You Can Help:
Thiago’s Journey to Hope and Healing.
Thiago didn’t come from a family that had much, but their deep love for one another sustained them. As the youngest grandchild, Thiago became a beam of hope in the midst of his grandfather’s battle with cancer. Yet, despite how much his family cared for him, Thiago was starving. At just 16-days-old, little Thiago visited the Moore Center for the first time weighing a mere 5 pounds.
Thiago has been a patient ever since, and as of November he now weighs 19 pounds!
Provide hope to a child like Thiago.
